About ECA
Edinburgh Chess Academy was created in 2017 by Andrew Green to provide a modern and exciting way of teaching chess to children.
Classes are divided up by skill level of the children to ensure that they are surrounded by others who are of the same chess ability as themselves. This means that lessons can be focused in a precise way to ensure maximum learning and challenging the kids while also ensuring that they are having a good time.
Our Approach
Each class is divided into three sections: lecture, learning and play. The Learning portion provides individual attention to each child whilst the Lecture and Play portion have a maximum class size of 24.
The combination of these methods results in an enjoyable experience for the children while also enhancing their chess skills.

Lecture
The Lecture introduces children to the day’s topic and provides them with theory they can apply while playing chess.
Learning
The Learning section focuses on giving each child one-on-one time with a coach to ensure they fully understand the most important concepts.
Play
In the Play section, children take part in one weekly competitive match as part of our ECA League, giving them valuable tournament-style experience. In addition to this, there are plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy friendly matches with one another.

Our Achievements
In addition to winning many Lothian Junior Chess and Scottish Junior Chess tournaments, click below to read about some of our achievements on an individual level. These accolades are just a few of what some of our pupils have achieved and many of our students have gone on to play for Scotland.
