Rules and Regulations

Structure

The Edinburgh Chess Academy Scottish Junior Tournament (ECASJT) is for children in Scotland from 5 to the age of 18 years old. There are three stages:

  1. Five Practice Qualifying Tournaments

  2. Five Qualifiers

  3. Five Championship Events

Online Event

All games will be played on Lichess (www.lichess.org). Lichess is a very popular website that is completely free to use.

To take part, players must create a Lichess account and join the “ECA” team. We recommend that parents switch on “Kid mode” which can be found under “Preferences” once logged in. This mode means that children cannot message or be messaged – all they can do is play chess. More detailed instructions on how to play can be found on the How to enter page.

Amendments

Edinburgh Chess Academy (ECA) reserves the rights to make changes to the rules during the competition to protect the integrity and fairness of the competition.

Fair Play Policy

All parents/guardians must ensure players have read and understood our fair play policy. The fair play policy can be read here:

Practice Qualifiers

The weekend before the Qualifiers we will run practice events. These will be the exact same as the actual Qualifiers and the idea behind these is to let the players get used to the website and tournament format. More details:
